Author's note

Department H font by Iconian Fonts is a free retro display typeface that looks like it’s been pulled straight off a speeding marquee. Ultra-condensed letters, sliced diagonals, and that hard slanted posture create a feeling of motion even when the text is standing still. The strokes are thick and inky, with a slightly industrial edge that evokes old department store logos, racing decals, and bold 70s packaging. It’s loud, directional, and unapologetically stylized.

Using Department H, short words and numbers punch through the layout, making it a natural fit for posters, sports graphics, event titles, game logos, book covers, and bold branding marks. This free font really shines at large sizes where its compressed rhythm and dramatic slant can stretch across a page or screen. Pair it with a clean, neutral sans serif for body copy and let Department H handle the headlines and hero text.
