1979 Dot Matrix, designed by MJ Ahlers of FSI FontShop International GmbH, is a free dot-matrix display font built from evenly sized circular marks. Its letters recall early electronic readouts and perforated sign boards, with rounded corners emerging from the repeated grid. The construction is clean and unmistakably mechanical.
The circular units can echo indicator lights, punched holes, or rows of rivets within posters, album packaging, and game interface graphics. That shared modular pattern links electronic music artwork with retro arcade branding and technology-themed event design, all rooted in display hardware.
