American Idiot is a free eroded display font with towering, tightly packed letters and an uncompromising weight. Sharp chips and torn gaps cut through the broad strokes, producing a rough photocopied texture without breaking the solid silhouette.
Posters and album packaging gain a raw punk attitude from its dense proportions and damaged surface, and the same treatment suits gig merchandise and skate graphics. In event branding, the distressed letters can become part of a pasted-paper collage or battered venue sign rather than serving as neutral type.
