Author's note

Ancien by Steve Cloutier of PYRS Fontlab is a free outlined and eroded display font with broad, forceful lettering. Its double-line edges give the forms a poster-cut silhouette, and the chipped interiors resemble ink lost from an old screen print. Rounded corners soften the otherwise industrial build.

It is aimed squarely at designers working with underground music, streetwear, and rough-edged event graphics. The worn fill can echo scuffed photography or photocopied textures on album covers and merchandise, turning the lettering into part of the artwork. Posters are its strongest setting, especially when the type needs the physical look of a weathered print rather than a clean digital finish.
