Author's note

Arev Sans, by Bitstream with modifications by Tavmjong Bah, is a free humanist sans serif with a calm, open rhythm and a slightly bookish tone. The letters feel straightforward rather than neutral: the tall, pointed A, compact r, and broad, curling S give it a soft, readable cadence without slipping into stiffness.

That makes it a useful free font for interface labels, editorial subheads, presentation slides, app branding, and wayfinding-style graphics where you want something plain but not anonymous. It also fits short pull quotes and cover lines nicely, because the rounded curves and modest contrast keep headlines feeling conversational instead of hard-edged.
