Bitter by Sol Matas is a free sturdy serif font with broad, confident forms and compact slab-like serifs. Its strokes change weight gently, giving the letters a firm texture without sharp fashion-magazine contrast. The lowercase is especially generous and open.

Literary subjects and thoughtful long-form content suit its grounded shapes, making it useful for book covers, magazine features, and cultural posters. In editorial illustration, the sturdy lettering can echo woodcut forms or geometric artwork and become part of the image.
