Author's note

Bluelmin Benedict by Paulo W. is a free calligraphic script with dramatic shifts from broad downstrokes to hairline sweeps and an emphatic forward slant. Tall, loosely joined letters push forward with sharp turns and extravagant loops.

Its rapid gestures give fashion photography a personal, hand-signed edge and suit glossy editorial magazine covers and beauty campaigns. The same restless line suits music posters and boutique branding, especially when a project favors something rawer and less mannered than formal copperplate. Its long strokes can cross into portraits or abstract ink marks, so the lettering becomes part of the artwork itself rather than a caption.

The font is named Bluelmin Benedict. Charles Bluemlein was a penman and calligrapher best known for producing a series of script alphabets for the Higgins Ink Company of Brooklyn, New York. These scripts were published in Script and Manuscript Lettering in the 1940s.

Bluemlein was one of the last members of the golden era of the North American penmanship tradition. This font is a free interpretation of his scripts. Although the original name was Bluemlein, the designer chose Bluelmin as the name for this font series.

The OpenType version includes three extra glyphs accessible through the glyph palette.
