Author's note

Brownwood by Nick Curtis is a free retro woodtype display font with the blunt swagger of old poster lettering. The caps look carved rather than polished, mixing broad, rounded forms with sharp inner cuts and a distinctive pinched rhythm that gives words a sturdy, late-19th-century voice.

It fits naturally in heritage branding, bar and cafe signage, poster headlines, whiskey or coffee labels, and title cards that want a printed, hand-pressed feel. As a free font, it also works well for chapter openers and monograms, where the chunky letters and those tapered joins give short lines a convincing vintage bite.
