Burton Scratch by Fidel Mendoza Jr. of PYRS Fontlab Ltd. is a free trash script font with the raw look of lettering scraped into a surface. Its narrow, uneven forms shift between wiry single lines and rough doubled strokes, with shaky edges and abrupt changes in height.
Grunge music, underground art, and distressed urban imagery give this lettering a convincing setting on album covers, gig posters, and streetwear graphics. Its nervous marks also suit horror packaging and independent film promotions aimed at audiences who respond to abrasive, handmade graphics.
