Code 2001, by James Kass, is a free high-contrast serif with a bookish, old-style flavor and a slightly literary calm. The letters pair broad, rounded forms with sharp little finishing cuts and a few soft curls, so the font feels cultured rather than severe.
That makes it a natural fit for magazine cover lines, publisher marks, museum branding, title cards, and elegant web headers where a free font needs some historical air without turning ornamental. It also works well for monograms and short pull quotes, because those tall, graceful strokes and rounded lowercase shapes give even brief words a composed, editorial tone.
