Author's note

D.I.Y. '75 is a free retro caps display font with a homemade 1970s feel. The letters are thick, rounded, and slightly blunt, with soft corners and a hand-cut looseness that keeps the alphabet looking casual rather than slick.

It fits posters, zines, record sleeves, shop signs, and event flyers where you want big lettering with a back-room, screenprinted mood; as a free font, it also makes sense for title cards or short cover lines that need that chunky, era-specific silhouette. The broad strokes and easy curves give brief words, initials, and simple monograms a solid, friendly presence.

Description

D.I.Y. 75 is another font I created for a commercial project I did in 2022. It was a vinyl album booklet for an early 1970s band. The band used to have a fanzine they made themselves. I rebuilt some for the booklet based on scans of original copies of the fanzine. There were some missing pieces so I needed to recreate them. This typeface was part of that process.
