Author's note

Engebrechtre by Ray Larabie of Typodermic Fonts Inc. is a free condensed sans serif with an exceptionally tall, fashion-conscious profile. Its narrow capitals combine sweeping rounded forms with abrupt flat cuts and pronounced changes in stroke width, creating lettering that feels elegant but slightly eccentric rather than strictly geometric.

Editorial mastheads are its most convincing use, especially for fashion publishing. Posters, fragrance packaging, and boutique signage also suit the towering proportions, since the long vertical strokes can echo slim product photography, architectural lines, or elongated borders and turn the lettering into part of the surrounding graphic motif with a theatrical scale.

Engebrechtre is an early 20th-century stressed sans-serif typeface created in 2000. The bold and expanded styles were discarded and redesigned from the regular weight. This version has new spacing, kerning, and web-friendly horizontal precision. The S was redrawn, accents were redesigned, and more languages are supported. The italics use round dots rather than slanted dots. Additional math symbols, fractions, numeric ordinals, an @ symbol, and the Indian rupee symbol were added. Vertical metrics were optimized for web performance.
