Author's note

Faber Sans Pro Leicht by Ingo Zimmermann of ingoFont Augsburg is a free light sans serif with tall, finely drawn proportions. Sharply pointed capitals punctuate the otherwise smooth, open lettering.

Fashion publishing is its strongest setting, especially for elegant cover lines and spacious editorial features. The slender strokes and broad curves also suit fragrance packaging, gallery programs, and cultural event posters with a refined contemporary direction. Its needle-like peaks can echo angular photography, architectural lines, or geometric illustration, making the lettering part of the image rather than a neutral caption.

Faber Sans Pro consists of two typefaces: a classic-modern sans serif and a stylistic alternate with characters based on uncial scripts.

The idea for the sans serif Faber Eins & Zwei originated in 1996. In 2010, the typeface was fundamentally revised and updated to current font technology.

The basic typeface is a classic-modern sans serif influenced by early twentieth-century typefaces such as Futura by Paul Renner and Gill Sans by Eric Gill. Roman Capitalis provided the model for the capital letters, while the lowercase letters are based on humanistic minuscule forms.

The stylistic alternate was created by redesigning the letters a, e, f, g, l, t, and u in accordance with uncial scripts from late antiquity and the early Middle Ages. The stylistic alternates also include a redesigned r. OpenType technology combines both typefaces in one font. The stylistic alternates can be accessed through Discretionary Ligatures, Stylistic Alternates, or the glyph panel.

Faber Sans Pro includes a true italic. The italic characters are based on handwriting styles rather than simply being slanted versions of the upright characters. They are rounder, with a more fluid stroke flow, and some letters have distinct handwritten designs, particularly a and g.

All ingoFonts fonts are available as free downloads.

The downloadable files contain only a reduced version of the font, consisting of uppercase and lowercase letters from A to Z and a to z.

The complete font, including numerals, umlauts, punctuation, and ligatures, is available only with a paid order.
