Author's note

Faber Sans Pro Leicht Kursiv by Ingo Zimmermann of ingoFont Augsburg is a free light italic sans serif with broad, elegant proportions. Its fine strokes change width gently, and the steep lean gives the lettering a brisk forward movement without disturbing its clean shapes.

The slim contours echo the economy of fashion sketches and architectural line drawings, making the font suitable for lookbooks, gallery posters, and cosmetics packaging. In magazine design, it can give feature titles and cover lines a refined editorial voice.

Faber Sans Pro consists of two typefaces: a standard sans serif and a stylistic alternate with characters based on uncial scripts.

The idea for the sans serif Faber Eins & Zwei, one of the first ingoFonts, originated in 1996. It became popular over time, particularly in English-speaking countries. In 2010, the typeface was revised and updated for current font technology.

The basic typeface is a classic-modern sans serif influenced by early twentieth-century typefaces such as Futura by Paul Renner and Gill Sans by Eric Gill. Roman Capitalis provided the model for the capital letters, while the lowercase letters are based on the proportions and forms of humanistic minuscule.

The stylistic alternates were designed for the letters a, e, f, g, l, t, and u in accordance with uncial scripts from late antiquity and the early Middle Ages. The alternate r also has a distinctive pointed form. OpenType technology combines both typefaces in one font. The stylistic alternates can be accessed through the OpenType features Discretionary Ligatures or Stylistic Alternates, as well as through the glyph panel.

Unlike classic sans serifs, Faber Sans Pro includes a true italic. The italic characters are based on handwriting styles rather than being slanted versions of the upright characters. They are rounder, have a more flowing stroke, and include distinctive handwritten forms, particularly for a and g.

All ingoFonts fonts are available as free downloads. The downloadable files contain a reduced font consisting only of uppercase and lowercase letters from A to Z and a to z.

The complete font, including numerals, umlauts, punctuation, and ligatures, is available only by order and payment.
