Author's note

FaberSansPro Kursiv by Ingo Zimmermann of ingoFont Augsburg is a free italic sans serif with lean, elegant proportions. Its changing stroke widths lend the lettering a lightly drawn quality. Long diagonals and open curves keep the forms lively, and the pronounced slant gives each line a brisk forward movement.

The refined contemporary style is well suited to fashion publishing, cultural event posters, and boutique packaging, particularly when an understated sense of motion is wanted. In editorial design and brand identities, the lettering can become part of the image itself, echoing the sweep of fabric, product silhouettes, or gestural photography rather than acting as neutral text.

Faber Sans Pro consists of two typefaces: a basic sans serif and a stylistic alternate containing uncial-inspired characters.

The sans serif “Faber Eins & Zwei” was developed in 1996. In 2010, it underwent a fundamental revision to bring it up to date with current font technology.

The basic typeface is a classic-modern sans serif influenced by early twentieth-century typefaces such as Futura by Paul Renner and Gill Sans by Eric Gill. Roman Capitalis provided the model for the capital letters, while the lowercase letters are based on humanistic minuscule forms.

The stylistic alternates affect the letters a, e, f, g, l, t, and u and are based on uncial scripts from late antiquity and the early Middle Ages. The alternate r has a pointed form. OpenType Discretionary Ligatures and Stylistic Alternates, as well as the glyph panel, can be used to access these characters.

Faber Sans Pro includes an italic based on handwriting styles rather than simply slanted upright letters. The italic characters are rounder, have a more fluid stroke movement, and include distinct handwritten forms, particularly for a and g.

All ingoFonts fonts can be downloaded free of charge.

The downloadable files contain only a reduced font consisting of uppercase and lowercase letters from A to Z and a to z. The complete font, including numerals, umlauts, punctuation, and ligatures, is available only by purchase.
