Author's note

Fette Steinschrift font by Dieter Steffmann is a free distressed serif typeface. Its chunky, stone-cut letters feel as if they’ve been stamped into rough paper, with softened corners, dark inky interiors, and slightly irregular contours that give every word a handmade weight. The rhythm is tight and compact, so lines look like solid bands of texture rather than neat rows of type.

Using Fette Steinschrift, titles and logos instantly pick up a bold vintage mood that works beautifully for beer labels, book covers, festival posters, packaging, and heritage-themed branding. This free font thrives at large sizes, where the rough edges and dense shapes can really show, and pairs well with a clean geometric sans serif set smaller for supporting text.
