Author's note

Fly Bird Fly by Manfred Klein is a free bird dingbat font built from lively, hand-drawn illustrations. The collection ranges from compact songbirds to lanky comic figures, with uneven inked contours, exaggerated beaks, and narrative details that give each symbol the look of a vintage newspaper cartoon.

Publishing is a good setting for these pictorial marks, whether used as chapter ornaments in children's books or humorous spots in magazines. They also suit nature-event posters and playful merchandise. Because the birds vary in pose and personality, designers can use them as recurring mascots rather than decorative symbols, and their perches, gestures, and comic props help tie applications to an avian theme.
