Author's note
Gausshauss by Nils Merkel is a free narrow sans serif with towering proportions, spare strokes, and an unusually airy, architectural silhouette. Its sharp joins and rounded bowls keep the drawing crisp.
Editorial design is its strongest medium: fashion magazine covers, exhibition posters, and arts programs gain a cool, vertical emphasis from the stretched letterforms and generous internal openings, without borrowing the blunt weight of other tall display faces. For gallery signage and cultural branding, the lettering can become an architectural element in its own right, echoing columns, window frames, and the clean geometry of a modern interior rather than acting only as a caption.
