Gentium Basic Bold Italic by J. Victor Gaultney and Annie Olsen of SIL International is a free calligraphic serif with firm, slanted forms. Broad curves meet finer joins, and the softly modeled strokes recall lettering shaped by a broad nib. The slant keeps the letters in motion.

Editorial titles are its strongest use, particularly in literary magazines and historical publishing with a classical voice. It also suits invitations and cultural event posters, where the flowing italic movement feels ceremonial. Botanical drawings or engraved illustrations can echo its tapered strokes.
