Author's note

Gentium Book Basic by J. Victor Gaultney and Annie Olsen of SIL International is a free humanist serif with a calm, literary bearing. Its broad curves and gently modulated strokes give the letters a handwritten warmth. The serifs are crisp but unobtrusive.

Book design is its clearest home, especially for novels and essays that benefit from traditional lettering without an antique air. It also suits museum publications and academic journals. Its open shapes suit readers of classic text faces.
