Author's note

Gort's Fair Hand, created by Bree Gorton and George Herbert Hirst, is a free brush display font built from broad, ink-loaded strokes, rounded ends, and uneven shapes that retain the quick movement of lettering painted by hand. The letters bounce gently across an uneven handwritten line.

That direct, handmade quality can suit cheerful food packaging and independent music posters equally well, lending both the immediacy of lettering made with a real brush. In publishing, it is especially apt for magazine cover lines, picture-book titles, and children's activity pages, where the loose forms can become part of hand-drawn illustrations rather than functioning as neutral text.
