Author's note

Happy Serif, designed by Stephen Knouse of Essqué Productions, is a free cartoon display font with a lively, hand-cut look. Its letters lean and bob at different angles, with uneven stroke widths and exaggerated pointed serifs. The shapes feel cheerfully unruly.

That cartoon style suits children's entertainment and comic publishing, where lettering can take part in the humor rather than simply label it. For party posters, the crooked forms suggest motion and a slightly mischievous voice. It also fits game graphics and novelty merchandise built around goofy characters or offbeat illustrated worlds.

The letters are closely spaced, with tight kerning and occasional overlap.
