Author's note

Happy Phantom Bold by Lauren Thompson is a free old-school slab serif display font with broad, dark strokes and softly rounded ends. Its sturdy shapes have an uneven, hand-cut quality. Curved letters look especially buoyant.

That mix suits cheerful food packaging and children's event posters, yet it also has enough vintage grit for music merchandise and playful editorial covers. The rounded slab shapes can echo illustrated sweets, clouds, or cartoon scenery, turning the lettering into part of the picture.
