Herkules, digitized by Dieter Steffmann for Typographer Mediengestaltung, is a free playful display font with a broad, uneven silhouette. Its swollen strokes taper abruptly, and the letters lean and bunch in subtly different ways. The result feels lively and hand-cut.
For children's books and snack packaging, the exaggerated shapes turn lettering into part of the illustration, and the same comic force suits music posters. Its strongest territory is children's comedy and other cheerfully unruly entertainment.
