Herold, designed by Dieter Steffmann of Typographer Mediengestaltung, is a free retro display font with towering, tightly drawn letters. Strong changes in stroke width and gently uneven edges give the lettering the lively pull of hand-cut poster type.
It can turn a music poster or festival identity into an immediate piece of 1960s-inspired lettering. The tall forms also suit record packaging and fashion editorial covers. Its theatrical proportions will appeal most to designers working with vintage nightlife, psychedelic music, and period-inspired entertainment.
