Author's note

HYPE by Nils Merkel is a free condensed sans serif with exceptionally tall, lean capitals. Its strokes are light and mostly even, with softly rounded curves set against firm verticals. The narrow proportions give the lettering an elegant, architectural air.

Poster design makes especially good use of its height and clean silhouette. It also suits fashion editorials, gallery identities, and event programs seeking a restrained contemporary look. Against geometric photography or linear illustration, the slim letters can echo upright forms and sweeping arcs without competing with the imagery.
