Author's note

Hypertension font by Swat Kat is a free grunge trash typeface that looks like it was scratched onto paper in a blackout of caffeine and noise. Letters sprawl and knot into inky clumps, with nervous strokes that wobble, smear, and collide, giving every word a frantic, hand-scrawled energy. It’s raw, messy, and a little unhinged-in the best possible way.

Using Hypertension, you can push titles to the edge on horror posters, punk or metal album covers, underground flyers, zines, game logos, and Halloween merch. This free font shines when it’s big and loud, letting the tangled lines become part of the artwork itself. For readability, pair Hypertension with a clean, neutral sans serif for supporting text so the chaos stays precisely where you want it.
