Author's note

JSL Blackletter font by Jeffrey S. Lee is a free medieval gothic blackletter typeface. Its inky, uneven strokes and tightly woven texture feel like they were pulled straight from an old parchment, giving every word a ritualistic, hand-lettered weight. The letters are dense and dramatic, with jagged edges that create a gritty, historic atmosphere rather than a clean, polished look.

Using JSL Blackletter, you can give instant gravitas to fantasy book covers, metal band logos, gaming titles, occult zines, craft beer labels, and renaissance fair posters. This free font thrives at larger sizes where its rough contours and heavy rhythm can really breathe. For supporting text, pair it with a plain, modern sans serif to keep layouts readable while letting JSL Blackletter command the spotlight.
