Author's note

Kells font by Deffeyes Design is a free Celtic gothic typeface that feels like it’s been lifted from the pages of an illuminated manuscript. The letters are tall and slightly irregular, with inky, tapering strokes that flick out at unexpected angles, giving the text a hand-cut, historical texture. It carries a quiet drama-elegant but a touch wild-so even a single word has presence.

Using Kells, titles instantly gain a storybook, mythic voice that shines on book covers, fantasy maps, folk music posters, pub menus, festival branding, and heritage event graphics. This free font works beautifully when you let it breathe at larger sizes and support it with a simple sans serif for body copy, keeping Kells as the accent that delivers all the character.
