Author's note

License Plates by Kirk Shelton is a free decorative display font that builds each letter into a mismatched stack of vintage license plate fragments. Tall, irregular forms, cropped state names, registration numbers, scuffs, and shifting borders give the alphabet the collected look of plates salvaged from different cars.

Packaging is an especially convincing medium for its roadside Americana and found-object texture, particularly on barbecue sauces, craft drinks, and garage-themed products. The same cut-and-assembled lettering can turn event posters and automotive merchandise into part of the graphic concept rather than ordinary text. In editorial design, it suits travel features or motoring stories that benefit from a ready-made license plate collage.
