ModeSeven by Andrew C. Bulhak of Macromedia is a free pixel display font built from chunky, low-resolution blocks. Its stepped curves and squared corners recall early computer screens, yet the broad letters remain open and direct. The spacing has a steady, machine-made cadence.
A retro game interface is its most convincing setting, with bitmap forms suited to menus and score panels. It also suits technology posters, music merchandise, and nostalgic packaging. ModeSeven is strongest when the lettering becomes part of an invented screen.
