Mongrel by chr.s of FontStruct is a free groovy display font built from weighty rounded shapes and abrupt inward cuts. Its letters alternate broad slabs with pinched joins, giving the line a lumpy, almost carved silhouette. The repeated notches add a slightly mischievous edge.
Packaging is a convincing home for this exaggerated lettering, especially on candy labels, music posters, and playful merchandise. In publishing, it can turn a magazine cover or section opener into part of the illustration.
