Author's note

Oldstyle Italic HPLHS, by Andrew Leman, is a free old-style italic serif drawn with the graceful slant and dark, calligraphic color of a 1930s book hand. The letters feel literary rather than formal, with long, tapering strokes, soft curves, and a slightly dramatic rhythm that gives even short words a period atmosphere.

That makes this free font a natural fit for pulp-inspired book jackets, magazine mastheads, film title cards, chapter openings, and museum or society ephemera where the historical tone matters. It works best in brief display settings, especially cover lines and drop caps, because the flowing italic movement carries so much of the mood on its own.
