Playbill is a free Western display font credited in its 1992 metadata to Stephenson Blake, URW, and Microsoft. Its extremely narrow letters combine massive slab serifs with abrupt shifts between broad horizontal strokes and pinched verticals, producing the unmistakable reverse-stress look of nineteenth-century poster type.
Theatrical venues, saloons, and heritage attractions can use its compressed silhouette for posters, signage, and event programs. In branding, those outsized serifs can turn a name into a period storefront or playbill emblem.
