Author's note

Portculliard Initials by PJL is a free Gothic initials font with the look of an illuminated manuscript panel. The letter sits in a richly framed square of tracery, rosettes, pointed arches, and striped ornament, while the blackletter form itself feels sharp, ceremonial, and a little heraldic.

It fits projects that want a medieval voice without turning into fantasy cliche: book covers, chapter openings, certificates, posters, title cards, and monograms all make sense for this free font. The framed letters work especially well as drop caps and short headings, where that bordered, woodcut-like surround gives even a single character enough presence to carry the page.
