Author's note

Rane Insular by Rane Rordam Knudsen is a free medieval comic display font with a lively, handwritten snap. The letters mix sharp, ink-cut angles with broad, curling strokes, so the alphabet feels part storybook script, part old sign painter, with a slightly mischievous rhythm rather than strict formality.

That makes this free font a natural pick for fantasy book covers, folk festival posters, pub branding, game title cards, and chapter openers where a few words need that old-world spark. It is especially good for short headlines and monograms, because the pointed joins and sweeping curves give even brief settings a sense of movement.

Rane Insular is my very first font, based on my personal handwriting which, in turn, is based on early Medieval Irish insular calligraphy.
