Author's note

Sanchez Italic, designed by Daniel Hernandez, is a free slab serif italic with broad, confident proportions. Its sturdy serifs are softened by rounded joins and gently curved legs, giving the letters a friendly printed character. The slant is measured rather than hurried.

Its sweeping curves and substantial horizontal strokes echo vintage sign painting, making it a useful companion to food illustrations on packaging and restaurant menus. The same softened slab details can form a label or badge motif across editorial covers and event posters.

Sánchez is Latinotype’s first display type family. It is a slab serif, or Egyptian, typeface comprising 12 variants, ranging from Extra Light to Black, all with the same x-height. The Regular and Italic variants are available free of charge.
