Schnitger_1680_Regular.TTF Font

Schnitger 1680, designed by Bernd Casper of RITE Instruments, is a free blackletter font with broad, ink-like strokes and an old printed-page air. Its rounded bodies, sharp inner turns, and sweeping entry strokes give the lettering a formal but distinctly hand-cut silhouette.

In publishing, it suits historical covers and concert programs because the dense shapes recall early books and church documents. It is strongest in period-minded title work, with additional scope for heritage signage and labels tied to classical music or traditional craft.

This handwritten font is based on labels for pipe-organ ranks created by the Hanseatic organ builder Arp Schnitger. It includes a limited selection of characters and can be used to write text in the style of around 1680.
