Author's note

Shadowed Germanica, a free medieval blackletter by PJL, leans into old Germanic lettering with thick black forms, sharp pointed joins, and a built-in shadow that makes the strokes feel carved and slightly raised. The alphabet has a ceremonial, banner-like mood, with sweeping curves set against narrow vertical rhythm so the letters look both ornate and severe.

This free font fits naturally into poster titles, album covers, tavern branding, fantasy maps, chapter openers, and event flyers where a historic mood needs to land fast. It works best in short settings like cover lines or title cards, because the shadowed blackletter detail gives even a few words the feeling of an illuminated heading.
