Author's note

Silkscreen Bold, a free bitmap pixel font by send bread and water to jason@kottke.org, has the blunt, screen-born feel of early interface lettering. The letters are built from chunky square steps and sharp right-angle cuts, giving the font a compact, no-frills rhythm that feels borrowed from old monitors, game menus, and utility labels.

That makes this free font a natural fit for retro game graphics, zines, posters, app splash screens, merch, and web banners where a crisp low-res voice is part of the message. It works best in short settings like title cards, cover lines, and badges, where those blocky corners and tight pixel grid do the talking fast.
