Smith Premier by Fonthead Design Inc. is a free retro display font with a late-Victorian, typewriter-era flavor. The letters are tall and narrow, with heavy vertical strokes, soft slab-like tops, and pointed joins that give the font a formal, posterish rhythm without losing its slightly quirky period charm.
It works well for period packaging, barbershop signs, book jackets, title cards, and short editorial headers where that upright, old-machine feel can carry the mood. As a free font, Smith Premier also suits monograms and drop caps, since the condensed letters make a striking block while the tapered details keep them from feeling blunt.
