Author's note

StateBirds by Character is a free nature dingbat font built from finely drawn bird emblems. Each symbol combines a carefully observed bird with curling ribbon scrolls, leafy branches, flowers, or other regional ornament. The thin, irregular linework has the look of vintage pen-and-ink engraving.

Historical publishing is its clearest home, especially in illustrated state guides, museum exhibition materials, and educational posters that benefit from imagery with the specificity and detail of an archival print. These ready-made emblems can also shape heritage branding and commemorative merchandise, connecting each project to American birdlife, regional symbolism, and natural history rather than serving as ordinary text.
