Swollen is a free distorted display font from Unauthorized Type, and the letters lean hard into a warped blackletter mood. Sharp, petal-like cuts and inflated curves make the forms feel pinched in one place and puffed in another, so the font reads less like neat Gothic revival and more like a handmade mutation of it.
That gives Swollen a natural place on posters, album art, horror zines, event flyers, and title cards where a short line needs tension and drama. As a free font, it also suits logos, cover lines, and brief wordmarks, because those swollen, blade-tipped shapes carry the whole look quickly.
This version contains all Capital and Lowercase letters, the numbers, most punctuation, some of the special characters, and some international characters by special request.
I wanted to see what I could do straight in Fontographer, so I made a bunch of straight lines into letters. I figured it would be pretty cool if they were curved out, or bloated a little. So I did that, and then decided to curve the inside parts of the letters back in. I may later take this and make some that are more swollen, but we'll just have to see about that.
