Author's note

Symbola by George Douros is a free high-contrast serif with broad capitals, slim hairlines, and sweeping curved forms. Its lettering has a formal, sharply cut silhouette.

Classical engraving and editorial illustration are natural companions for these stately shapes, especially when lettering shares a refined historical atmosphere with the artwork. In book covers and museum graphics, the pronounced changes in stroke width lend titles a scholarly, ceremonial air without relying on ornament. The same poised drawing also suits concert programs and cultural event posters, where its large curves and narrow joins can echo architectural details or fine linework.
