Author's note

The Dead Saloon is a free distressed Western display font with tall, tightly packed capitals and forceful slab serifs. Its upright silhouettes recall nineteenth-century wood type, but the letter shapes remain clean and direct beneath the weathered surface. Chips and speckles gather unevenly across the strokes, suggesting ink loss, dust, and years of wear rather than a uniform digital filter.

It can give a whiskey label the look of a frontier brand, yet the rugged lettering suits country-music posters, rodeo merchandise, and Western game graphics. Those settings share a taste for saloon signs, rough printing, and frontier imagery, which this font evokes through its narrow proportions and battered texture.
