Volkhov by Ivan Petrov for Cyreal is a free serif font with sturdy, broad proportions and pronounced stroke contrast. Its wedge-shaped serifs and flared details give the letters a firm, carved quality. The shapes feel formal but not delicate.
Book covers are a good fit, since the weight and classical structure hold their own beside illustration. The same qualities suit museum programs, historical exhibition graphics, and magazine features. In those settings, the lettering can become part of an engraved or inscription-like idea rather than serving as neutral text.
