Author's note
Ann Crawlers font by Ann Stretton is a free animals dingbat typeface that turns the Ann font family into a wriggling parade of insects. Each glyph is a crisp, inky silhouette—spindly legs, rounded beetle shells, and tiny ant-like bodies that look like they’re scuttling right across the page. The solid black shapes read clearly even at small sizes, but really come alive when scaled up into bold borders, dividers, or crawling accents along edges and headings.
Using Ann Crawlers, you can add just the right amount of creepy-crawly character to Halloween invites, science fair posters, kids’ bug-club flyers, zines, stickers, and nature-trail signage. This free font works beautifully when paired with a clean sans serif for text, letting the insects handle the drama while the words stay readable. Try running a line of glyphs as a top and bottom frame, or drop a single bug as a quirky bullet or section marker.
