ARB-187 Moderne Caps AUG-47 CAS, by The Fontry, is a free high-contrast serif caps font with a bold, poster-minded presence. Broad, weighty curves meet razor-thin joins and flared wedge-like serifs, giving the letters a theatrical mix of machine-age geometry and vintage advertising swagger.

This free font belongs on event posters, editorial covers, packaging, record sleeves, storefront graphics, and title cards where a few large words can carry the composition. Its tight joins and oversized rounded forms create a dense, rhythmic line, especially effective for short headlines or cover lines rather than quiet supporting text.

Beginning in January 1932, Alf R. Becker of St. Louis, Missouri, at the request of then-editor E. Thomas Kelly, supplied SIGNS of the Times magazine's new Art and Design section with an alphabet each month. The project was initially predicted to last only two years.

The series instead ran for 27 years, ending two months before Becker's death in 1959, totaling 320 alphabets in an uninterrupted run.

In late 1941, just ten years after the first alphabet was published, 100 of those alphabets were compiled and published in book form under the title 100 Alphabets by Alf R. Becker.
