Author's note

Ashes 1 font by Cambridge Fontworks is a free eroded display font, and the typeface looks like it’s been singed, sandblasted, and dusted with soot. The strokes feel dry and gritty, with chipped edges and speckled gaps that give every word a scorched, post-fire texture. It reads like a warning label pulled from the ruins—sharp, raw, and a little haunted.

Using Ashes 1 works beautifully for horror posters, dystopian game titles, album covers, zines, protest graphics, spooky event flyers, and gritty film title cards. Keep it large so the erosion stays punchy, and pair it with a clean neo-grotesk sans for the supporting copy to keep layouts readable while this free font does the damage up top.
