Author's note
Barred Out font by GemFonts is a free striped experimental face built from tight horizontal bars cutting through clean sans shapes. The letters feel caged and mechanical at the same time, giving headlines a sense of tension and motion, like text seen through security shutters or scanlines on an old monitor. It’s eye-catching in a single word or short phrase, especially at large sizes where the banded texture really shows.
Barred Out works best where impact matters more than long reading: posters, album covers, game titles, sci‑fi interfaces, glitch artwork, and bold event flyers. This free font pairs well with a simple geometric sans set smaller underneath to handle supporting details or taglines. Use plenty of spacing around it so the striped texture can breathe and stay crisp on screen or print.
